SOHAM LIGHT RAILWAY (ESLR)
As many of you are aware, ESLR is a privately owned 7.25inch gauge steam railway which runs around the garden of The Rookery in Earl Soham. Nigel and Jane Sheffield are kind enough to allow the trains to operate with paying passengers on Fete Day each year for the benefit of St Mary’s Earl Soham.
HOWEVER, whilst Nigel and his friends are able to keep the engines in running order, the track needs some serious maintenance to keep the engines running along it. To do this Nigel needs a team of volunteers prepared to give a few hours each week for a couple of months in the Spring.
The sort of skills needed to guide the team are basic practical building skills, understanding levels, angles and gradients and most important checking the gauge – perhaps you have worked in drainage or the building industry. And then, of course, man/woman power is needed!
If you are interested in this please contact Nigel or myself.
If we are unable to get a team of workers the train will NOT run on Fete day, which would be so sad as it is a huge draw - many people come to the Fete because of it
